Integrating Mingo and Epicor

As a manufacturer, you need complete visibility into your plant. In order to improve productivity and get insights into the plant, all of your systems need to communicate with one another. Mingo Manufacturing Analytics developed an Epicor ERP integration to give manufacturers access to all of their data, in one place.

Tacony is one such manufacturer. They wanted to integrate their ERP system, Epicor, with Mingo Smart Factory to do something very unique and innovative. While Epicor integrations are not uncommon, Tacony opted to use the integration to monitor their distribution center, in addition to monitoring production.

They wondered how efficiently they were getting product out of the door, but before the two systems were integrated, this was difficult to determine.

Analyzing & Improving Efficiency

“We always lacked visibility into how efficient we were being at the warehouse level,” Nick Hinman, VP of Corporate Strategy at Tacony says, “If we could use Mingo data collection and visibility into how efficient we are at the distribution level… we can set a daily standard, a goal, a number of people how efficient we’re being to that standard.”

Essentially, the Mingo and Epicor integration helps Tacony efficiently pick, pack, and ship on time to customers.

Visibility Extends Beyond Operations

The team at Tacon is measuring how many lines are picked, packed, and shipped to customers. With Mingo, they’re able to do this automatically, instead of manually as they were doing before, with data fed straight from the Epicor database.

Epicor pushes data to Mingo almost constantly throughout the day as the product is picked and packed. Then, it’s measured against a standard to determine if a goal was met.

Ben Wohlschlaeger, Process Optimization Manager at Tacony, spoke about an example of how the Epicor integration works from a distribution standpoint.

Let’s say the team knew they needed to ship 1,400 boxes in one day to meet demand. But, before the Mingo and Epicor integration, it was never known how close to target they were at any point in the day, only what had been shipped the day before. This is what the ERP system was capable of and its limitation.

But, with the Mingo and Epicor ERP integration, it became possible to use the data insights to enhance Tacony’s minute by minute. If halfway through the day, they weren’t on track to meet the goal, they could make changes and bring in relief if needed.

There was another big benefit, too.

“Mingo allowed for the team to “cross-train” manufacturing and distribution associates to work in both areas of the factory,” Nick says.

Now, if manufacturing isn’t keeping up with shipping demands, Tacony can move people that could be shipping product to picking product so product gets to the manufacturing line, enabling more product to be shipped to meet the goal.
